EFG creates an environment for European foundations to strengthen the relationship and collaboration amongst European foundations and between European and U.S. HIV and AIDS foundations.

With its rigorously harmonised resource tracking publication between Europe and the U.S., EFG has achieved an increased transparency of, and efficiency in funding on HIV and AIDS by European and U.S. foundations.

EFG plays an important role in convening high-level meetings where lively debates and dialogues on HIV and AIDS issues between private funders, bilateral and multilateral donors take place and result to improved funding coordination and effectiveness.

In this period of economic austerity, EFG’s role is becoming increasingly important in facilitating partnerships and innovative approaches amongst European foundations in responding to the pandemic in a joint and effective way. Mobilising the philanthropy to raise governments’ awareness on the necessity to continue funding on HIV and AIDS programmes in particular community based programmes, health-system strengthening as much as prevention and treatment remains the highest priority of EFG and reflected in its current and future activities.
